Zambia showcases local foods at Milan Expo

TRYNESS MBALE, Lusaka
ZAMBIA is expected to showcase local foods in the legumes and fruits cluster at the Milan Expo 2015.
The Expo, which opened on May 1- October 31, 2015 under the theme, Feeding the Planet, Energy for the Future, offers an opportunity for participating countries and organisations to reflect on solutions to the contradictions of the world today and discuss them.
This is contained in a statement by Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) manager for communication and public relations Margaret Chimanse on Thursday.
Ms Chimanse said clusters are an innovative way where countries that share the production of a specific food or a specific theme exhibit in spaces within the same architectural location.
“ZDA in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry is participating in the Milan Expo 2015 alongside 124 other countries to showcase Zambian foods in the Legumes and Fruit Cluster,” she said.
Some of the foods expected to be on display at the Zambian pavilion are soya products, coffee, jams, bottled fruit juices, various nuts, peanut butter and chillies.
She said information on tourist attractions and opportunities for investment is also being given to visitors.
Among the highlights of the Expo is the visit by First Lady Michelle Obama who will be visiting with her daughters Sasha, Malia and her mother Marian Robinson.
Mrs Obama will lead the official delegation of the United States to the USA pavilion focusing on ‘American Food: United to Feed the Planet’.
Recently, the American first lady announced the new American programmes in support of girls’ access to education in developing countries.
Healthy nutrition, access to education, health: are the commitments on which Mrs Obama has built her activities as first lady and on which she intends leaving her own legacy.
