Dear editor,
THERE is something wrong about this country because we fail to seize opportunities.
I am referring to the yawning market for Zambian mealie meal and other products in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
DRC is a huge market for maize and other merchandise.
Instead of seeing the ready market for mealie meal as an opportunity, we are busy calling it smuggling instead of exporting.
Marketers should help our traders to start seeing from different lenses and begin to position themselves for the export market.
We boast of bumper harvests, yet we fail to export so that our traders and farmers can earn the much-needed foreign exchange to boost their incomes.
Government should facilitate the formalisation of business with the DRC in line with the COMESA and SADC protocols for the benefit of all parties.
MWENYA G,
Kitwe
