Zambia shines at CUCSA games

THE Zambia basketball women’s team has won a gold medal at the Confederation of University and College Sports Association (CUCSA) games.
Zambia finished with four points, two better than Zimbabwe.
The gold winners pummeled Zimbabwe 51-39 on Wednesday at National Sports Development Centre in Lusaka.
In the basketball men’s category, Zambia thumped Zimbabwe 89-68 while Angola battered South Africa 86-48.
Zambia are top of the group with six points and today’s game against Angola will decide the champions.
Angola are third with four points.
Zambia triumphed in table tennis, winning gold medals in the men’s and women’s categories.
In men’s volleyball, Lesotho beat Malawi 25-13, 13-25, 25-21, 25-17 while Botswana edged Zimbabwe 25-23, 15-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11.
In chess, Zimbabwe women’s team won a gold medal while Zambia settled for silver with Botswana grabbing bronze.
By press time, Zimbabwe men’s chess team were leading on nine points while Zambia and Botswana were at six points apiece.
Meanwhile, Zambia collected bronze in netball after beating Namibia 53-44 in the third place play-off at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.
Zambia lost 53-42 to Zimbabwe in the semi-finals while South Africa edged Namibia 47-38.
Zimbabwe and South Africa were in action by press time.
