Zambia seeks flexible visas

KAMPYONGO

NANCY SIAME, Lusaka
MINISTER of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo says Government will support and promote a more flexible visa regime that will ease the movement of economic actors across the borders of the member countries of the Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA).
TFTA members include countries in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the East African Community (EAC) blocs.
Mr Kampyongo said Government is committed to adopting and promoting visa regimes that would help the region reap the benefits of integration without compromising security.
He said this in a speech read for him by Ministry of Home Affairs permanent secretary Chileshe Mulenga at the second tripartite private sector regional dialogue, which has attracted participants from COMESA, SADC and EAC member countries.
And COMESA deputy secretary-general Kipyego Cheluget said the free movement of people is an essential vehicle for economies to trade and integrate.
