ZAMBIA has signed 19 Government and private sector memoranda of understanding (MoU) and agreements with Morocco in various sectors of the economies of the two countries.
The signing of the array of agreements was witnessed by President Lungu and King Mohammed VI of Morocco at a ceremony at State House yesterday.
These included eight MoUs between Zambia and Morocco and 11 agreements and MoUs between the private sectors of the two countries.
These included a general agreement on economic, scientific, technical and cultural co-operation signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba and his Moroccan counterpart, Salaheddine Mezouar.
The two ministers also signed an MoU on the establishment of a political consultations mechanism.
Mr Kalaba and Mr Mezouar later signed an agreement to reinforce co-operation in education, training programmes and learning visits.
Minister of Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba and Mr Mezouar signed an air services agreement while Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe and Moroccan Minister for Economy and Finances Mohammed Boussaid signed an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments.
Mrs Mwanakatwe also signed an MoU on Industrial Co-operation with Moroccan Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy Moulay Hafid Elalamy.
Minister of Agriculture Dora Siliya and her counterpart, Aziz Akhannouch, signed an MoU in the agriculture sector.
Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Christopher Yaluma and Director General of the Office of National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines Amina Benkhadra signed an MoU between his ministry and the institution, respectively.
In the private sector, Zesco has signed a co-operation agreement for the development of renewable energy projects in Zambia with Moroccoâ€™s MASEN.
Zambia Tourism Agency chief executive officer Felix Chaila and Moroccan National Tourist Office chief executive officer Abderrafia Zouitene signed an MoU in the field of tourism between MNTO and ZTA.
An MoU between Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and Tanger Med Special Agency has been signed by the Moroccan agencyâ€™s president, Fouad Brini, and ZDA director-general Patrick Chisanga.
Mr Chisanga also signed an MoU between Casablanca Finance City Authority and ZDA with the authorityâ€™s CEO, Said Ibrahimi.
Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) president Tyson Chisambo and his Moroccan counterpart, Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun, signed an MoU to establish a bilateral business council for the two countries.
Development Bank of Zambia managing director Jacob Lushinga also signed an MoU with Moroccoâ€™s Group Credit Agricole du Maroc chairman Tariq Sijilmassi while Zambia National Commercial Bank CEO Henk Mulder penned an MoU with Attijariwafa Bank Group of Morocco CEO Mohamed El Kettani.
Mr Mulder also signed an MoU with Banque Centrale Populaire of Morocco CEO Mohamed Benchaaboun for the two financial institutions.
And Insurers Association of Zambia immediate past president Shipango Muteto signed an MoU with Moroccan Federation of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies director general Mohamed Bensalah.
Others are the signing of a co-operation convention for the development of crop insurance in Zambia between MAMDA of Morocco and Zambia State Insurance Corporation and an MoU between MAMDA-Re and Zambia Reinsurance Company Limited.
