Zambia mints 8 more

HONE SIAME, Bulawayo
ZAMBIA yesterday bagged eight more medals at the ongoing African Union Sports Commission (AUSC) Region 5 Games in Zimbabwe.
Five medals were reaped from athletics with three from swimming, bringing the total number of medals won to 22.
Zambia has won five gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals at the sixth edition of the regional games running under the theme ‘Reach for Greatness’ in Zimbabwe’s commercial city Bulawayo.
Abigail Sepiso minted silver in 200m girls’ category won by Loungo Matlha of Botswana while her compatriot Moi Ntiretse settled for bronze at White City Stadium.
Sepiso, who missed out on gold by a whisker, clocked 25:16 seconds in a tightly contested final that saw Motlha winning the final heat in 24:57 seconds.
Marjory Chisenga and Abigail Chongo were disappointing as they finished fifth and eighth in the same category.
Loud Moonga also minted silver in the 1,500m of the Paralympics category while Christopher Mukosha got bronze in 100m.
In the boys’ 200m, Youth Olympic champion Sydney Siame again failed to grab gold after finishing third to settle for bronze barely two days after winning silver in the 100m.
Joseph Sinkala, who minted gold in high jump two days ago, won his second medal by settling for bronze in the long jump that was won by South Africa’s Boer Duwayne.
In swimming, Tilka Paljk won silver in the 50m breaststroke with Alex Axiotis minting bronze in 100m breaststroke while Ralph Goveia also grabbed bronze in 100m butterfly.
National youth athletics coach Kezzias Nyendwa expressed happiness at the performance of the runners at the AUSC Region 5 Games ending tomorrow.
