I WRITE to appeal to Zambia Credit Guarantee Scheme Limited whose mission is to promote growth and competitiveness of medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs) to establish its offices at provincial and eventually district level.
It is more than imperative that their offices be brought closer to people across the country because one of the specific objectives of the scheme is to facilitate advisory services such as financial and business development. In fact, it would be ideal for the Government through relevant ministries to establish one-stop business centres in each province to house the Patents and Company Registration Agency, Zambia Revenue Authority, Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission, Youth Development Fund and such other bodies.
If the Zambia Credit Guarantee Scheme is decentralised it will hasten the reduction of developmental inequalities between rural and urban areas because ‘reducing inequality not only between rural and urban areas but also within the areas is important to improving the wellbeing of the population.’ (Seventh National Development Plan 2017- 2021).
Provincial Expos which so far have taken place in Luapula, Central and Northern provinces and are most likely to take place in other provinces will soon start bearing economic growth. The ZCGS would do well to position itself strategically and start promoting MSMEs as per their vision, mission and overall objectives.
