ZAM calls for growth of leather sector

THERE is need for Government to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI) to stimulate the growth of the leather sector.
In recent years, leather and its products have been receiving increased attention around the world and are identified as one of the most lucrative businesses in years to come. Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) said the sector is set to flourish as demand for leather raw materials, including hides and finished goods, is expected to exceed supply in the next 10 years.
“The sector is income-intensive and requires heavy sunk costs, thus Government should attract FDI as was done in Ethiopia and amend incentive structures for finance,” the ZAM newsletter reads.
