ZABS steps up counterfeit fight

ZAMBIA Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has established enquiry points at border posts country-wide to curb counterfeit and illegal products at points of entry.
ZABS director Manuel Mutale said the strict standardised, quality assurance and services will be allowed in the country to suit the business environment.
“The introduction of good standard enquiry points in border posts will see a reduction in importing and exporting unregistered and counterfeit goods on the market,” Mr Mutale said at the ZABS awareness seminar in Lusaka recently.
He said technical regulations and standards are being implemented to ensure good quality products on the market.
Officiating at the event, Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry director of industries Tobias Mulimbike said Government is committed to promote good trade practices which will be internationally accepted by meeting quality standards.
Mr Mulimbike said the ministry is facilitating the setting up of goods standards enquiry points for people to access information and know the quality of goods to be exported to other countries.
“Government is aware that economic growth comes with quality goods and Zambia is moving in that direction,” Mr Mulimbike said.
He said polices and strategies aimed at fostering economic growth to reduce the levels of poverty in Zambia are being put in place.
Mr Mulimbike said Government’s aim to improve everyone’s living standards through promotion of quality good entrepreneurship.
