OVER 21,000 products were last year inspected by the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) at border entry points to promote quality among goods produced locally and those entering the country.
ZABS also conducted over 1,900 factory inspections, beating the 2017 set targets of 1,700 for products and 20,000 for factories.
ZABS director Manuel Mutale said ZABS’ mandate is to set standards for the industry.
In 2017, a total of 905 national standards were promulgated, bringing the cumulative total of national standards to 4,500.
Mr Mutale said this in a statement issued by ZABS public relations officer Lee Haamunji.
