Young author defies all odds

AUTHOR Peter Mukuma shows off his No Melanin book.

VICTOR KALALANDA, Lusaka
IN THE fall of 2013, 18-year-old Peter Mukuma, then thin and ungainly in appearance, sat at a desk in his study and craned his neck to write Rising to Greater Heights, a motivational page-turner that would be his first book.
Before long, his father, a man of ramrod posture who went completely deaf upon being slapped by Mukuma’s grandfather, walked in.
“What are you doing?” he curiously asked his son, who seemed to be unprecedentedly focused.
“Dad, I am writing a book,” answered Mukuma with a glint of enthusiasm in his eyes, hoping to impress and shock his father.
The older Mukuma was not impressed but he was shocked, though to the disadvantage of his son, for he abrasively said, “You’re joking. You can’t write a book. You don’t know what it takes,” and he left.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
