Works at Kanyama boarding school stall

CONSTRUCTION works at Kanyama boarding secondary school in Mwinilunga in North-Western Province have stalled due to lack of funding.
Government is constructing the school at a cost of over K44 million.
Mwinilunga district commissioner Ireen Mate revealed the development during the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) meeting.
Ms Mate said works at the project have stalled and a Chinese contractor on the project has since abandoned the site.
“The construction of Kanyama boarding secondary school has completely stalled due to lack of funding,” she said.
Ms Mate appealed to Government to consider releasing funds so that works can resume.
She said Mwinilunga is in dire need of more secondary schools as the population has increased .
And Ms Mate said the district has been hit by a critical shortage of health staff especially in remote areas.
“We actually have a case where one health facility in Kanyama is closed due to lack of staff and what the people are saying there is retrogressive to the government of the day,” she said.
She said the low staffing levels in the district is compromising the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people.
Ms Mate appealed to the Ministry of Health to consider sending more health personnel to the district to cushion the shortage of manpower in health institutions.
