Workers bemoan boomeranged debt initiative


FOLLOWING salary-based loan deductions which have appeared on October payslips for some civil servants, a public service union is surprised that Government has allowed loan recoveries to continue without consulting it. The funds were deducted by the Public Service Micro Finance Company (PSMFC). About three months ago, the Patriotic Front (PF) regime implemented the debt swap initiative which was set to benefit 60,000 public workers. The programme was meant to provide relief to civil servants who are highly indebted with compromised capacity to service the debt. However, the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration suspended the debt swap, saying they needed to study the initiative before deciding whether to continue with it.  Vice-President W.K.
