KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
ZAMBIA Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has called on farmers to work with cooperatives to take advantage of the solar milling plants to enable them to add value to maize.
ZCF director-general James Chirwa said in an interview last week that farmers need to start adding value to their maize through producing mealie meal.
Mr Chirwa said farmers should not wait for the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to sell their maize but harness the opportunity being offered by the federation.
“For instance, a 50 kilogramme [kg] bag of maize produces 45 kg mealie meal, which translates into K120. Therefore, if value is added to the maize, farmers will get more money,” he said.
Mr Chirwa said the ZCF has installed about 1,300 solar plants across the country to help http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
