WOMEN must actively participate in the road construction industry, Road Development Agency (RDA) board chairperson Samuel Mukupa has said.
Mr Mukupa said there are few women in the road construction industry, a thing that must come to an end.
“Women are more resilient, faithful and dedicated to a cause than men are. We need more women in the sector,” Mr Mukupa said.
He was speaking on Friday shortly after undertaking an inspection of various road projects in Eastern Province.
Mr Mukupa said women must participate at all levels of road construction.
He is, however, pleased to find a few women working at the RDA Pave Zambia plant.
“This is how it ought to be but the number of women in this sector is not impressive,” Mr Mukupa said.
And a contractor working on the portion of the Great East Road, Giuseppe Carrubba, told Mr Mukupa that women have actually proved to be better than most men.
“Our workforce is made up of 20 percent women. Women are very hard-working. Of course we hope to employ more before the project comes to an end,” Mr Carrubba said.
