Woman cries for her kids

CHALI MULENGA, Livingstone
A RECEPTIONIST of Livingstone has begged the court to give her custody of the children because their step-mother mistreats them.
Iwasi Juma of house number H97 Zecco compound was in the Livingstone Local Court in a case in which she sued Brian Munkombwe, 37 of house No MC 344 of Maramba township for child custody.
Juma told principal presiding Local Court magistrate Harrison Kabwenga that she got married to Munkombwe in 2007 but later divorced in 2013. The couple had two children together. Munkombwe has since re-married.
“I want custody of my children, because they are being mistreated by his wife. Whenever the children come to visit me, they are always complaining. So I want to take care of them,” she said.
But Munkombwe told the court that he was ready to release the children on condition that she ensures they continue their education. He denied claims that they were being mistreated.
Passing judgment, the court dismissed the claim after noting that both children were above seven years old and thus has the right to be with their father.
