Woman, 44, drowns in Luswishi river

A 44-YEAR-OLD woman of Chief Shibuchinga’s area in Lufwanyama has drowned in Luswishi River.
Lufwanyama district commissioner Alex Kalela said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened between August 5 and August 19 this year.
Mr Kalela identified the deceased as Jane Muongo of Sambatenga village in Lufwanyama.
He said Ms Muongo drowned while she was trying to cross Luswishi River to visit her relatives on the other side.
“I can confirm that we had an elderly woman who drowned in a river here in Lufwanyama. She left her matrimonial home on August 5, 2014 to see her relatives but unfortunately while trying to cross the river, she drowned,” he said.
Mr Kalela said the body was retrieved and buried at Sambatenga village.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said she had not yet received a report about the incident.
