Witness ‘dials’ Mwaliteta number


A WITNESS yesterday showed the High Court how a cell phone number belonging to former Lusaka Province minister Obvious Mwaliteta was used during the alleged robbery of Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) officials who were transporting materials to the commission headquarters.
Mwaliteta, 46, a politician, is jointly charged with Evans Mukobela, 44, a student, Macmillan Shimukonka, 33, operations manager, Laswell Phiri, 42, a businessman and Emmanuel Mumbi with two counts of aggravated robbery.
When the case came up for continued trial before High Court Judge Mwape Bowa, a receptionist at Airtel Zambia Headquarters Mwila Mwape said she produced reports regarding three numbers that were indicated in a search warrant.
Ms Mwape said she was requested to produce a call record for the numbers which indicated where they were on August 14, 2016.
She said she also produced a bio-report which provided information about who the numbers belonged to.
Ms Mwape narrated to the court that the numbers placed the owners around Longacres area at the time that Mwaliteta and four others are alleged to have robbed two ECZ officials that were transporting election materials to the ECZ head office from City Airport in Lusaka.
Particulars are that on August 14, 2016, the four, in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together, stole ECZ election statements and threatened the officials with violence.
