Win or else, Nkana coaches warned

March 11, 2013

HONE LIWANGA reports:
NKANA Football Club chairman John Chiwele says his executive will not take kindly to poor results this season.
Chiwele said in Kitwe yesterday that Nkana must aim at winning this year’s Super Division title as opposed to being mere participants.
He said his executive will provide the necessary support to the Masautso Mwale-led technical bench to ensure they succeed in bringing the title to Nkana Stadium.
The 11-time Super Division champions Nkana last won the league in 2001.
“We don’t want Nkana to be mere participants in this year’s championship.
We must win the league. Mopani Copper Mines has put in a lot of money in this team that has even helped us to recruit a number of players,” Chiwele said.
Mwale, who is assisted by former internationals Gift Kampamba and Zeddy Saileti, has beefed up the team with the recruitment of defenders Christopher Munthali from Power Dynamos, Lottie Nyimbili from Zanaco, Albert Mwape from Konkola Mine Police, striker Chakwa Lungu, Green Mumba from Zesco United and Afick Zulu, formerly of ‘Brave’ Nchanga Rangers.
Midfielder Labby Lwambula, who was on loan at Zanaco, is also back at the ‘Wusakile’ outfit.
Nkana, who finished 10th on the Super Division log last season with 35 points, were champions in 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1999 and 2001.
Meanwhile, the refurbished Nkana Stadium will today open its gates to the public when Nkana take on Kabwe Warriors in a friendly.
Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) pumped US$450, 000 (about KR2.2 million) for the rehabilitation work.
MCM public relations manager Cephas Sinyangwe and Chiwele have called on fans to turn up in numbers for the friendly match.
“We would like to appeal to soccer fans to come in numbers to support Kalampa as they make their return home. This is a team to look out for in the 2013 soccer season,” Sinyangwe said.
Nkana were using Arthur Davies Stadium last year for home matches.
Chiwele said the match against Warriors will help the technical bench to come up with the right combinations ahead of the 2013 season that will kick off this Saturday.
