MUBANGA NONDO, Ndola
A -22 -YEAR-OLD housewife of Ndola’s Zambia township and her alleged lover have pleaded guilty to assaulting her husband.
Gladys Nawale, 22 and her co-accused Chrispin Kunda, told magistrate Emmanuel Malenga when the matter came up for plea on Tuesday that they assaulted the complainant in defence as the latter initiated the fight upon seeing her engage in a conversation with Kunda whilst at a bar.
On April 6, this year, in Ndola, the accused, jointly and whilst acting together, allegedly assaulted Chrispin Mulenga, thereby occasioning actual bodily harm.
Nawale told the court that it all started when they were at a bar and she greeted Kunda and this incensed Mulenga and an argument ensued.
“I assaulted my husband because he started beating me upon seeing Kunda whom I had exchanged greetings with,†Nawale said.
The court recorded a plea of guilty in the matter, but Mulenga, through senior public prosecutor John Simagesi, made an application to withdraw the case against both accused persons on grounds that he had forgiven them.
The court granted the application under section 8 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
“The application to withdraw the case is hereby granted and I order that all parties involved in the matter be reconciled,†Mr Malenga said.
