POLICE in Kawambwa have arrested a 43-year-old woman for allegedly stabbing her 51-year-old husband to death after a marital dispute.
The dispute started after the husband identified as Gideon Chanda returned from a drinking spree on Christmas Day.
Luapula Province Commissioner of police Hudson Namachila said the incident happened around 19:00 hours in Kapatamoyo village at the coupleâ€™s home.
â€œMr Chanda returned from a drinking spree and a quarrel ensued with his wife over the care of the children and debts incurred by him,â€ he said.
Mr Namachila said Mr Chandaâ€™s wife identified as Florence Chitalu was angered and got a kitchen knife which she used to stab her husband on the left side of the chest.
â€œHe started bleeding through the nose and mouth and was rushed to Mupunga Rural Health Centre on a bicycle by his 17-year-old daughter but died upon arrival,â€ he said.
He said Ms Chitalu is detained in police custody and will appear in court this week for mention.
And BUTTYSON KANDIMBA in Solwezi reports that a 29-year-old man of Mambwe village in Kasempa district in North-Western Province has committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree.
The incident happened between December 25 at 21:00 hours and December 27 this year at 06:00 hours in Kakombe area.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka confirmed this to journalists in an interview yesterday and identified the deceased as Pearson Bisanka.
â€œHe hanged himself on the neck using a chitenge material for no apparent reason,â€ he said.
He said police visited the scene and picked the body in a nearby bush about 200 metres away from the village.
Mr Daka said relatives were advised to bury the remains as police suspect no foul play while an inquiry into the matter has been opened.
And a-29-year-old woman of Kisasa area in Kalumbila district has been beaten to death by her husband.
Mr Daka identified the deceased as Karen Makechi and named the suspect as John Palata aged 38.
He said the deceased had her neck twisted and had swollen private parts.
â€œAn unknown object was used in the act,â€ Mr Daka said.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman of Messenger township in Solwezi has been raped by four men.
â€œThe details of the case are that on December 25, 2016 at 22:00 hours near New Vision Community School, the complainant was raped by four men whom she can identify,â€ Mr Daka said.
He said the woman whose names have been withheld sustained bruises on the knees, painful genitals, swollen lips and general body pains.
â€œThe injuries were as a result of force used by the assailants before and during the act,â€ he said.
