THE directive by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) to the Copperbelt University (CBU) to continue running the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Dental Surgery programmes until further notice has sent varying signals in the country.
This is because the directive by the HEA comes barely a week after the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) withdrew from CBU after a compliance monitoring inspection established a number of irregularities.
As members of the public, we are left wondering as to who, between the HEA and HPCZ, does not know what it is doing.
This is total confusion. Which organisations should CBU or the general public listen to?
Maybe, the Acts governing the HEA and HPCZ need to be harmonised.
