Who is who in deputy mayoral race?

COUNCILLORS of Lusaka city are preparing to elect one of their own for the position of deputy mayor which has been necessitated by the expiry of tenures of deputy mayors and vice council chairpersons countrywide.
The election was initially scheduled for today but has since been put on hold, following an eligibility petition filed before the Constitutional Court.
The petitioners are councillors seeking the guidance of the court on who qualifies to take part in the election to the office of deputy mayor and vice council chairpersons.
The election of deputy mayors and vice council chairpersons was initially supposed to be held according to the provisions of the Local Government (Amendment) Act. No 6 of 2010 but the petitioners argue that the Act is in conflict with the Constitution.
Over the years, the person holding the position of deputy mayor has been elected into office by fellow members of the council or fellow councillors, which has been the trend since independence.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
