We’re to blame over Belemu departure, says Mweetwa

THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has blamed the defection of its Mbabala Member of Parliament (MP) Ephraim Belemu to the Patriotic Front (PF) on its Choma district leadership.
UPND spokesperson and Choma Central MP Cornelius Mweetwa told a media briefing yesterday that he also partly blames himself for his colleague’s departure from the country’s biggest opposition political party.
Mr Belemu, regarded as one of the strongest UPND legislators, defected to PF on Tuesday, citing betrayal and deceit in the party, among other reasons.
Mr Mweetwa believes Mr Belemu could not have left UPND had the party district structures moved in quickly to defend him against aggressive tactics from his opponents.
