MEMBERS of the public have been warned to desist from drug abuse during the festive season, or risk facing the wrath of the law.
And the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on Saturday destroyed various quantities of drugs forfeited to the State pursuant to section 43 (1) of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act, after court cases were disposed of.
DEC deputy public relations officer Kamufisa Manchishi said in an interview that the commission will continue to enforce its mandate during this festive period.
He also urged parents and guardians to ensure that they pay particular attention to the actions of their children to prevent them from getting involved in illicit activities such as abuse of drugs.
Mr Manchishi said most of the clients handled by the commission at its counselling centres are youths between the ages of 10 and 35.
