NATIONAL team coach Wedson Nyirenda has dropped skipper Rainford Kalaba and striker Collins Mbesuma and has drafted seven under-20 players for next Saturday’s 2018 Russia World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

The under-20 stars are defenders Boston Muchindu and Moses Nyondo, both of Nkana, midfielder Edward Chilufya of Mphande Youth Academy, the Austria-based duo of midfielder Enock Mwepu and striker Patson Daka, Belgium-based midfielder Emmanuel Banda and forward Fashion Sakala of Russian side Spartak Moscow.
The seven were instrumental in guiding the junior Chipolopolo to glory during the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Zambia and reaching the quarter-finals at the FIFA South Korea World Cup.
Nyirenda said at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday that he is building a new squad.
Kalaba, who features for Democratic Republic of Congo side TP Mazembe, is suspended for the first leg but is eligible for the return leg on September 5.
Mbesuma is currently clubless after being released by South African side Highland Park.
Nyirenda has recalled defender Billy Mutale, midfielders Fwayo Tembo and Clatous Chama who were all sidelined due to disciplinary reasons.
“For now Kalaba is not part of the team and the boys Clatous, Fwayo and Billy we did what we did and now the boys have learnt something and they have shown remorse, so they are back,” he said.
Nyirenda has kept faith in goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, defender Stopilla Sunzu and midfielder Chisamba Lungu, all Africa Cup winners.
Mweene has been appointed skipper.
The other foreign-based players summoned are midfielder Roderick Kabwe of South African side Ajax Cape Town and striker Brian Mwila of South African outfit Platinum Stars.
And Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary Ponga Liwewe said the Chipolopolo will leave for Algeria immediately after the Lusaka match by charter.
The Chipolopolo will regroup next Monday.
