ROBINSON KUNDA, Lusaka
NATIONAL team coach Wedson Nyirenda has dropped midfielders Clatus Chama and Dave Daka ahead of Saturday’s international friendly
against Ethiopia in Lusaka.
The two were part of the squad that clobbered Swaziland 7-0 on aggregate in the 2018 Kenya African Nations Championship (CHAN) first round.
Chama netted a brace in the 4-0 win over Swaziland in the first leg on July 16 in Mbabane.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) communications manager Desmond Katongo said in Lusaka yesterday that Chama and Daka are not in Nyirenda’s plans for the match against Ethiopia.
Chama caused controversy during the CHAN return leg against Swaziland when he walked straight to the dressing room after being substituted at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
He was withdrawn for midfielder John Ching’andu.
The Lusaka Dynamos skipper’s action infuriated Wedson Nyirenda.
Chama, however, apologised to Nyirenda, who accepted the apology.
Katongo said the Chipolopolo will use the friendly against Ethiopia to prepare for the CHAN final round against South Africa.
Zambia will travel to South Africa next Saturday with the return leg after a week.
Katongo said the technical bench will also use the friendly to assess players ahead of the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifiers against Algeria.
Zambia host Algeria on September 2 and three days later travel to Constantine for the return tie.
Team manager Chris Chibuye said the team will regroup in Lusaka today.
