‘We need to be at Paralympic Games’

DIANA MUTAKAFIMBO, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT has bemoaned Zambia’s absence at the just-ended 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games.
Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development permanent secretary Agnes Musunga said in Lusaka on Monday that Government is not pleased with Zambia’s absence at the Paralympics.
Musunga, however, said qualification to the Paralympic Games is not automatic as athletes have to qualify.
“As Government we are not happy but obviously there are rules for these games [Paralympics]. You just don’t go and participate but you have to qualify and we did not qualify,” she said.
Musunga said Government will support the Paralympics Committee of Zambia and other stakeholders to ensure people with disabilities get support in their quest to compete at future international assignments.
