WCFCB to refund Chat Breweries explosion victims

WORKERS’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB) spokesperson Maybin Nkholomba says the organisation will refund all the medical expenses that Chat Breweries in Luanshya will incur in treating its eight employees who suffered injuries in an explosion last month.

Mr Nkholomba said in an interview recently that WCFCB had received a claim of compensation for eight victims injured in a work place accident at Chat Breweries in Luanshya recently.
He said the organisation had started the paperwork for the compensation process of the injured employees but that this will be effectively done after the victims are discharged from hospital.
Mr Nkholomba said according to an initial investigation conducted, the explosion at the brewery company was caused by an engineering defect that affected the boiler maker.
He said the accident was reported to WCFCB within three days of its occurrence and that this was in line with the legal requirement.
“The accident was reported in good time and we are going to refund Chat Breweries 100 percent of all the medical expenses they will spend on the victims,” Mr Nkholomba said.
Last month, a blast at the brewery company injured eight workers and caused extensive damage to property.
The injured workers were left with burns and fractured bones.
