ZAMBIA Bureau of Standard (ZABS) has urged Zambians wanting to buy motor vehicles abroad to consult relevant authorities to avoid being exploited.
ZABS executive director Manuel Mutale said the market has witnessed an increase in the number of uncertified vehicles which has contributed to road accidents.
“The high numbers of uncertified cars on the Zambian market are worrying and costly because most of them are not certified before being exported,†Mr Mutale said in an interview yesterday.
He said ZABS has since engaged Japan-based inspecting firm, Auto Terminal to inspect vehicles entering the market to avoid offloading uncertified vehicles.
The engagement of Auto Terminal brings the number of motor vehicle companies to two with Jevic currently inspecting motor vehicles entering the market.
He said ZABS will ensure that manufacturers do not consider Zambia as a dumping site for uncertified vehicles.
