‘Walls of Jericho’ set for CAS

Mufulira Arts Council, also known as Mufulira Little Theatre will stage Walls of Jericho at Chingola Arts Society tonight.
‘Walls of Jericho’ is a play slowly becoming a household name among lovers of theatre arts on the Copperbelt, and now Mufulira Arts Council is prompted to promote it beyond the province.
The eight-man cast brings into reality a love triangle involving a young girl called Lukundo, the priest and other interested parties.
In the play, the priest is seemingly doomed following claims by a certain man that he has deflowered his niece.
The matter becomes so highly heated that it scares off two young men who were eyeing the girl. But little did the two men know what was brewing in the pot.
As the drama unfolds, it turns out that the uncle was also eyeing his sister’s daughter, while the girl’s mother was fully aware of the priest’s covert escapades.
In the course of time, Lukundo’s family influenced by the uncle, cross their boundaries by forcing themselves into the priest’s house, much against the prelate’s church doctrine.
The drama further unfolds when the priest’s two brothers also fall deeply in love with Lukundo, the girl at the centre of controversy.
The play was written by Jonathan Simpemba, directed by Godfrey Chitambala and produced by John Kapesa who is a veteran theatre critic, playwright and actor who has put together a youthful cast to dare the stage and expose their immense theatrical skills.
