Waive tax on electricity – ZCTU

GOVERNMENT should waive tax on electricity tariffs and suspend water bills to enable households to have disposable income to meet basic necessities in the wake of coronavirus.
Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) secretary general Cosmas Mukuka said in a statement yesterday that waiving tax on electricity and suspending water bills will enable poor people to afford basic necessities such as food, sanitisers and masks.
“Much as ZCTU supports the waiver on tax penalties and interest, we note that these measures will have little impact on workers, especially those in informal sectors,” Mr Mukuka said.
