Friday Ballad with BALLAD ZULU
THERE are those who argue that sex and secular popular music have always gone hand in hand. They argue that to be able to be “cool” and sell, one has to be sexually appealing either in appearance, in lyrics or in the sound.
Zambian music has had its share of sex purveyors. There are those who dress skimpily in very revealing outfits and of late there is an upsurge of suggestive lyrics. These are popular to some and appear to be working for the artistes involved, in terms of popularity.
The question of how much sexual content can be allowed in music is at cultural, sub-cultural and individual level.
I used to like the music of Tshala Muana, and in fact, I still like some of her songs. She performed at Mulungushi.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
