Vehicles torched, chief flees

BUTTYSON KANDIMBA, Solwezi
CHIEF Matebo of the Kaonde people in the newly-created Kalumbila district has deserted his palace after unknown people burnt his two vehicles, which were parked at his palace.
North-Western Province deputy commissioner of police Geoffrey Kunda told journalists in Solwezi that a Toyota Mark II and a Toyota Spacio were burnt in the early hours of yesterday.
Mr Kunda said the assailants also shattered some windows of Chief Matebo’s palace and that no arrests have been made so far.
He said arising from threats, Chief Matebo has deserted his palace and that police officers have been deployed to the palace to keep vigil.
