Vehicle amnesty to raise over K3m, says ZRA boss

KALONDE NYATI, Lusaka
ZAMBIA Revenue Authority (ZRA) says it has to date collected K1.4 million following the vehicle amnesty campaign, which it has described as successful.
And the tax collector says about 20 percent of the 381,700 motor vehicles registered with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) do not have matching records on its electronic system.
The amnesty is aimed at providing relief on penalties and interest to individuals and firms that did not have genuine customs clearance documents.
ZRA commissioner general Kingsley Chanda said at a press briefing yesterday that the commission anticipates to collect about K3.6 million when the campaign comes to an end on Saturday December 31 as a result of overwhelming response from the public.
“The exercise has received overwhelming response even before it comes to an end on December 31 [Saturday]. We also have potential revenue amounting to K2.2 million pending our assessments,” he said.
