USAID keen to promote agro sector

ESTHER MSETEKA, Lusaka
THE United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Southern Africa Trade Hub has pledged its continued support to promote investments and technology transfer in agriculture within the region at this week’s Agritech Expo scheduled for Chisamba.
Over 10,000 people are expected to participate at this year’s event that is poised to offer a range of free practical workshops to assist farmers in the use of the latest technologies to improve their productive capacity.
USAID agriculture value chains director Gerrit Struyf said in a statement availed to journalists at the Pre-Agritech Expo 2015 media breakfast meeting yesterday that the agency will continue helping southern Africa harness its huge agricultural potential and become much more competitive.
Mr Struyf said it is clear that agriculture is a major engine of economic growth and wealth creation for the population, hence the need to develop the sector with latest trends.
He is optimistic that there will be a high level of participation by farmers on latest development taking place in the agriculture industry globally.
Commenting on the event, ZNFU president Evelyn Nguleka said the expo is a good networking and business platform for participants to enhance their productivity.
Agritech has proven not only as a networking platform, but a unique and targeted business platform where actual sales happen.
