USA congratulates Zambia

AID will not bring prosperity to Zambia but investment by the private sector, US assistant secretary of state for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield has said.
Ms Thomas-Greenfield, who was in the country representing the US at the golden jubilee celebrations, said the private sector needs to get involved in order for Zambia to spur to development.
She was commenting on Zambia’s revised foreign policy, which will now focus on   economic diplomacy as opposed to political diplomacy.
Ms Thomas-Greenfield said she had been tasked by President Barack Obama to reaffirm the US’ positive relations with Zambia.
She congratulated Zambia’s 50 years of independence and urged Government to up its fight against corruption, which she termed as a “cancer” that retards development.
