CHOMBA MUSIKA, Lusaka
TRIAL in a matter in which four United Party for National Development cadres are charged with possession of offensive weapons yesterday
failed to take off as the first accused person has been re-arrested in another matter in which he is charged with assault.
In this case, Remmy Mukoba, Kelvin Mupulisa, Fabian Lubona and Martin Muchindu are charged with two counts of being in possession of offensive weapons.
In the second count, the four, on April 25, 2017, in Lusaka, jointly, and while acting together, had in their possession offensive weapons.
These were a bow and three arrows, two plastics of potassium permanganate, and one plastic bottle of glycerine.
When the matter came up for continued trial before Lusaka magistrate Sylvia Munyinya yesterday, the court heard that Mukoba was absent.
One of Mukoba’s lawyers Nellie Mutti told the court that her client could not attend the session because he was apprehended the previous day.
Ms Mutti said Mukoba was re-arrested on Tuesday shortly after he was discharged by magistrate Greenwell Malumani in a matter in which he was appearing before his court for an assault case.
“The accused [Mukoba] was here yesterday [Tuesday] before magistrate Malumani in another matter where the court entered a nolle prosequi.
“But soon after the nolle was entered, he was apprehended by the police and that is why he is not here.
“He is being held at the Lusaka Central Police station on an assault charge,” she said.
The court adjourned the matter to September 1, 2017 for continued trial.
