I WRITE to congratulate the Zambia Under-20 national team on their qualification for the final round of qualifiers for the Niger 2019 tournament. However, the 1-1 draw at home was not expected and that result left many soccer fans disappointed.
The lads did not play as a team but rather as stars wanting to score and impress the fans.
There was so much selfishness on the part of strikers, to the extent of squandering chances which could have resulted in goals.
That the team will face Burundi must send a cold shiver as Burundi is a neighbour to Rwanda and they play almost the same type of football.
Just as Young Chipolopolo beat Rwanda away by 2-0, Burundi also walloped Sudan in Khartoum by a facsimile margin.
In the same vein, as Zambia drew one-all at home, Burundi was also held to one-all draw in Bujumbura. Therefore, both teams are good travellers and poor hosts but Zambia need to beat Burundi at all cost and aim for a draw away.
That can be possible if the technical bench can inculcate the spirit of teamwork. Otherwise, if Zambia will exhibit the standards we saw at Nkoloma Stadium, then we might as well forget about defending the cup. Good luck boys.
