UN lauds Zambia’s e-voucher

THE United Nations (UN) has lauded Zambia for launching its first-ever virtual farmers’ market (VFM), an e-commerce platform in the agriculture sector under the electronic voucher system which seeks to expand the distribution of farm inputs and promote efficiency in marketing their produce.

UN deputy secretary-general Amina Mohammed says the path Zambia has taken to pilot the concept, which allows farmers to have their surplus and buyers’demand for crops to be matched, advertised and traded, is commendable.
She said there is need for UN member states, individually and collectively, to learn how to harness the power of technology and its use to address challenges that continue to hinder the growth of the agriculture sector.
