UMCIL spreads wings

TRYNESS TEMBO, Lusaka
UNIVERSAL Mining and Chemical Industries Limited (UMCIL) has started operations at its Sanje Hills Mine and direct reduced iron (DRI) plant with an investment of about US$120 million.

DRI, also called sponge iron, is produced from direct reduction of iron ore (in the form of lumps, pellets or fines) by a reducing gas produced from natural gas or coal.
UMCIL/Trade Kings civil engineer and spokesperson Ernest Mande said the mine will feed into the plant with iron ore, which will be processed into sponge iron, a product used in making steel and manufacturing engines for vehicles, among others.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
