A UNITED Kingdom-based engineering consultancy, WSP, has been appointed by the Southern African Power Pool to develop the proposed 330 kilo volts (kV) electricity interconnector between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The transmission link is poised to help Zambia and DRC improve reliability of power networks to foster economic development and regional integration.
According to a statement issued by Creamer Media on Friday, the project, which has financial backing from the African Development Bank, the World Bank and the Atmospheric Research and Environment Programme, is also aimed at supporting the growth of an efficient and competitive regional power market.
