U-20 off to Spain without Daka

THE under-20 national team yesterday left for Spain for a two-week training camp without star striker Patson Daka.
The junior Chipolopolo will be in Spain to prepare for the 2017 Africa Youth Championship kicking off on February 26 in Lusaka and Ndola.
Daka left for Europe last Saturday to join his new Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg.
Under-20 coach Beston Chambeshi said before departure at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka yesterday that Daka was not among players that left for Spain.
“On Patson Daka it is an administrative matter, I cannot comment much but I hope and trust that he can come and join us in Spain. We are waiting for confirmation from the team manager [Daniel Jere] and all those involved on when he will join us. He is not with the team and I don’t know when he will join us,” Chambeshi said.
He said the absence of Daka will not affect the training programme.
Daka scored three goals at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Youth Championship in South Africa last month as Zambia won a record 11th title.
Daka’s strike partner Fashion Sakala netted four times in South Africa.
During the Spain camping, the junior Chipolopolo will play friendlies against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid youth teams.
“Our aim is to build a strong and winning squad that will compete well and win the championship. We do not have any injuries. We are carrying a strong team that is free from injuries,” Chambeshi said.
He said the players are taking the outing to Spain seriously.
Zambia are in Group A with Egypt, Guinea and Mali while Cameroon, Senegal, South Africa and Sudan are in Group B.
The top four finishers will qualify for the FIFA World Youth Championship slated for South Korea in May this year.
