Twangale Theatre to premiere ‘Broods of Any’

STAFRANCE ZULU, Lusaka
TWANGALE Theatre Company is today and tomorrow expected to have a red carpet premiere of the play “Broods of Any” at Lowenthal Theatre in Ndola.
The play is directed by the Italian-based Zambia theatre artiste Martin Ilunga Chishimba Martin, who is said to have worked with a number of seasoned theatre professionals in Rome and Milan.
He told the Weekend Mail in Ndola that he deliberately decided to work with a Ndola-based cast on the play in order to promote local talent.
It has not been easy working with green horns in theatre, he says, but he nonetheless feels fulfilled that the work has been done and the cast is raring to go on stage.
The cast for the play includes Chali Mubanga, Chanda Pule, Frank Chibungu, Jackson Malasha, Joseph Chiyaka Jr, Moses Meysen, Natasha Munaretto and Olivia Phiri.
“We’re ready for this weekend’s event. We have received material support from some well-wishers who have bought bulk tickets; these are mostly local corporate organisations. Others have printed banners for us, which is a good gesture towards us the hosting of the show,” Martin says.
Other than banners, the producers have got airtime on local radio station Sun FM to advertise the show. Tickets are being sold at Lowenthal Theatre and Loyal Barber’s.
The red carpet premiere will start at 17: 00 hours today while the play is scheduled for 19: 00 on both days.
The play is based on some characters on the streets who find it hard to survive and yet have little option but to survive. They portray off springs from different backgrounds, which are all surviving together on the streets. And since the streets befriend no one, they have to anything to survive, which means drinking dirty water, doing drugs and scavenging for any type of food.
