‘Too much tomato spoils soup’

Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) has expresses concern with the dumping of several fresh commodities such as cabbages and tomatoes on the market which has caused a significant drop in the prices, resulting in many farmers making losses. The situation has not gone unnoticed by President Hakainde Hichilema, who commented on his Facebook page: “This makes sad reading to us who have been working tirelessly to unlock both local and international markets for our produce through the various memorandums of understandings (MoUs) we have signed.” Mr Hichilema said the agriculture produce must not go to waste, especially at the time food prices are soaring in the world. He said herein lies an opportunity for value addition and massive cold storage facilities and exports. “We are not seeing a problem here, we are seeing a huge opportunity that is yawning for investment and job creation.
