Toivo a great freedom fighter – KK

FORMER President Kenneth Kaunda has described late Namibian freedom fighter Herman Andimba Toivo ya Toivo as a great freedom fighter whose legacy should not be forgotten.

And acting Namibian High Commissioner to Zambia Michelle Farmer says the people of Namibia will continue to hold Dr Kaunda in high esteem for the pivotal role he played in the liberation struggle.
Dr Kaunda said yesterday when he signed a book of condolence at the Namibian High Commission in Zambia that Mr Ya Toivo, who died on June 16, 2017 aged 92, was a great son of Africa.
“We are here to mourn a great freedom fighter. How can we fail to remember him, his name stands out in Namibia and may it continue to stand out as a great freedom fighter for what he did for all of us,” the 93-year-old former President and freedom fighter said.
Dr Kaunda said Mr Ya Toivo, a former minister of mines, energy, labour and prisons, will be remembered for defending his beliefs.
And acting Namibian High Commissioner to Zambia Michelle Farmer says the people of Namibia will continue to hold Dr Kaunda in high esteem for the pivotal role he played in the liberation struggle.
Ms Farmer also thanked Dr Kaunda for sparing time to write a message in the book of condolence.
“You [Dr Kaunda] mean a lot to the people of Namibia and we will be forever grateful for what you have done for Namibia,” she said.
