Title contenders Hurricanes, Hawks clash in round eight

NAPSA Hurricanes and Hawks take to the court today to brighten their title hopes in the men’s Midlands Basketball Association (MBA) league which

enters round eight at National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka.
And at the Copperbelt University court in Kitwe, Kansanshi Panthers will cross daggers with Kamfinsa Cardinals.
Hawks were 88-80 losers to defending champions Matero Magic last weekend while Hurricanes were embroiled in some technical drama with Munali Suns and their match ended prematurely.
Hurricanes coach Mwape Konsolo will be taking no chances describing the match as an uphill battle and expects his charges to overcome.
“It will be an uphill battle but we are equal to the task therefore I expect a win,” Konsolo said.
With dependable Germaine Mauwe, Zawalika Daka and Sefelino Simfukwe enjoying top form, Konsolo’s expectations will not be shattered.
MBA men’s champions Magic will have an easier assignment when they take on Heroes Play United whose coach American born Jamal Atkins has approached this season as one of a talent identification process.
Although they were battered 97- 50 by league leaders Green Buffaloes last weekend, Atkins expects a better performance today.
His counterpart Obert Shamboko is equally cautious saying every game was no walk in the park regardless of the opponents.
Lying third on the table, Magic are making a steady climb to the summit and beating Heroes will help the cause.
“After losing to Buffaloes and Hawks, we cannot afford to take any fixture lightly as we have learnt that there are no easy games in the MBA,” Shamboko said.
In Kitwe, Copperbelt Energy Corporation Queens face Chingola’s Spax Storms in a Copperbelt Basketball Association women’s encounter while Spax Warriors tackle renamed side IC Tigers who previously carried the YMCA prefix.
Nishati Shells overwhelmed 66-19 in last week’s women’s MBA series one fixture against Buffaloes, hope to make amends when the sides clash in the second series fixture at NASDEC.
University of Zambia Honeys title defence staggered with a loss to Buffaloes a fortnight ago but today the face Matero Magic Sparks.
