Threatened state of emergency expires

Given Lubinda.

MINISTER of Justice Given Lubinda yesterday told Parliament that the 90-day threatened state of public emergency came to an end last evening.

In July this year, President Lungu invoked Article 31 of the Constitution of Zambia, declaring that a situation in the country existed which, if allowed, would have led to a state of emergency.
Delivering a ministerial statement in Parliament, Mr Lubinda said the effect of the expiration of the period relating to the threatened public emergency is that the application of the Preservation of Public Security Act chapter 112 of the Laws of Zambia and the preservation of the public security regulations, statutory instrument number 55 of 2017 was suspended.
