Thieving sales rep jailed 15 months

THE Kitwe Magistrate’s Court has slapped a 15 months jail sentence with hard labour on a 29-year-old sales agent of Kwacha township in Kitwe for stealing airtime valued at K 22, 369.00, a property of MTN.
This was in a case in which Enoch Malyo was charged with one count of theft by servant contrary to the laws of Zambia.
When the matter came up for plea on Tuesday before Kitwe senior Resident magistrate Prosper Mwila, Malyo admitted to the charge.
“Your honour I sold the talk time but I did not take back the money to my employer because I wanted to use it,” Malyo said.
Particulars of the offence are that, on April 15, this year, in Kitwe, Malyo did steal the airtime valued at K22, 369.00 the property of MTN.
In passing judgment, magistrate Mwila said he was satisfied with the facts presented before him and he convicted Malyo on his plea of being guilty.
“I sentence you to 15 months imprisonment with hard labour and if you are not happy with what I have done, you can appeal to the High Court within 14 days,” Mr Mwila said.
Facts before the court are that on the material date, the convict was presented with the airtime in question  for sale by the sales supervisor Tamina Luchembe.
The court heard that Malyo disappeared after selling the airtime and was later arrested.
