Teaching beyond service

MIKE MUGALA, Solwezi
WHEN Ms Chisenga Chilala noticed that one of her pupils, Enelah Muyezha, had stopped attending school for some time, it raised a red flag in her.
Ms Chisenga planned to visit the 14-year-old girl’s home with a mission to find out why she was absconding class.
She established that Enelah had been lumped with a responsibility to look after her younger brother by her mother.
Enelah’s mother is a widow and she has to solely provide for her family by engaging in piece work in the surrounding villages.
Ms Chisenga, a primary school teacher at Kifubwa, was determined to have Enelah continue with her school, so she offered to take care of the baby while she also taught her pupils.
The teacher would strap the baby on her back while she taught Enelah’s class. http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
